79% of Georgians want a "FAIR
up or down vote" - Sonny "no vote" Perdue flagged again
by
Mike Crane
"The issue today is the
same as it has been throughout all history, whether man
shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small
elite."
- Thomas Jefferson
It is interesting that we keeping hearing
demands for a FAIR up or down vote
from Republicans in Washington. In fact they were so adamant on
this a few months ago they devised what they called the "nuclear
option" referring to using their power to end Senate Filibusters.
But where do our State of Georgia - Republicans
stand when
79% of Georgians
say they want a "FAIR up or down"
vote on the State Flag. Suddenly they are exactly what they accuse
the Democrats in the US Senate of being - proponents of "no
vote!"
We expect the media to ignore the 79% of
Georgians who want a FAIR up or down vote,
they know that this is a struggle between who runs our State, the
People or special interests. We all know the media are mostly part
of the special interests. What is surprising is to see the
Republican Party supporting both the special interests and what
they call derogatory names in the US Senate - denying a
FAIR up or down vote.
The Georgia FAIR Vote Bill - HB-15 sits in
committee, self proclaimed "no vote"
Republican Representative
Austin Scott tells the media he will kill the bill. 79% of
Georgians will be ignored while Republicans call upon citizens to
write letters to Democrats condemning the same thing.
How do you spell h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e?
House Speaker Republican Glenn Richardson stood
in front of the Georgia House of Representatives in 2003 and told
them that a FAIR up or down vote
was good for Georgia. But he changed his mind, strangely the
Atlanta Chamber then publicly bragged
about their influence on the New Administration.
Sonny Perdue campaigned on a promise to give
the People of Georgia a FAIR up or down
vote. Over and over he criss-crossed the State and even
told people that they would get a FAIR
Vote as he took contributions out of their hand. He
condemned his opponent - Roy Barnes - for pandering to special
interests and denying a FAIR Vote.
But after collecting the votes and a
bunch of campaign
contributions from the Chamber types, something happened.
The Atlanta Chamber was willing to publicly
tell what happened (in their own words from their web site):
The Metro Atlanta Chamber won about
three-fourths of its agenda, most critically
the flag. Given a
new Governor and new legislative leadership, this was a great achievement.
In January the Legislature will convene again.
We will be watching to see if the Republican controlled House,
Senate and Governor's mansion will support a
FAIR up or down vote as 79% of
Georgians have said they want. You the citizens of Georgia - will
be able to see which side on the struggle between special
interests and the People the Republican Party supports.
What will the Republican controlled House,
Senate and Governor's mansion support - a
FAIR up or down vote or
no vote! Will they do what they
say is right or will they pander to special interests? Will they
do what they ask people to demand from Democrats or will they
prove they are better Democrats than the Democrats were?
Oh by the way, some of the 79% of Georgians who
want a FAIR Vote flagged Sonny "no vote"
Perdue again. Inside you had the politicians being paid by the
People, on the outside you had the citizens who foot the bill
taking time off work to remind the governor that they want a
FAIR up or down vote.
