Illegal
immigration is perhaps the best example of the unholy influence of
special interests on our government at all levels. The actions that
need to be taken would be crystal clear if our elected officials
represented the citizens instead of special interests.
- In this case the primary
special interests are corporations wanting cheap labor - while you
the tax payers pick up the social costs as a subsidy to corporate
greed.
- The secondary special interests
are elected officials themselves, pandering for votes.
While mostly a federal issue there
is much that the State of Georgia could do to protect our citizens,
if the State Legislature and Governor were not so cozy with special
interests:
- Have each State law enforcement
agency pick up "illegals" when ever detected. If Homeland Security
will not accept a transfer for deportation offer each illegal the
option of staying in jail or accepting a voluntary one way
trip to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in
Washington, DC.
- Provide stiff (not weak as in
current law) penalties for employers who hire illegals including
criminal penalties for repeat offenders. These employers are
arrogantly breaking the law the law today with impunity.
- Provide improved legal recourse
for restitution against any Georgia employer who displaces a
Georgia citizen with an illegal.
Some may say these are harsh
steps.
They are correct - illegal
immigration is a major problem and if not corrected has the
potential to destroy the America that you grew up in. If we do not
take strong action soon - we are condemning our grandchildren to an
inferior life and lower standard of living.
In my
Basic Foundation and Beliefs in Government
I clearly state:
All human rights are granted by God, not
government and government exists primarily to protect the
God-given rights of its citizens -
NOT to determine which rights it will permit
its citizens to exercise.
Now lets review the tree items above in the context of this
fundamental Founding Principle of our country, which the vast
majority of elected officials refuse to do.
Item 1: Have each State law
enforcement agency pick up "illegals" when ever detected. If
Homeland Security will not accept a transfer for deportation offer
each illegal the option of staying in jail or accepting a
voluntary one way trip to 1600
Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC.
As stated above this problem is a
failure of the federal government to protect the rights of its
citizens. Our State government was also constituted to protect the
rights of its citizens, even when the federal government fails to do
so.
How much should the tax payers of
Georgia be penalized for the failure of the federal government to do
its job? From my perspective we have already been penalized too
much. If every State enacted such a law, and began offering either
jail or a one way trip to 1600
Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC even
Congress would soon wake up.
The tax
payers of the State of Georgia would benefit even after paying the
expense of the trip.
Item 2:
Provide stiff (not weak
as in current law) penalties for employers who hire illegals
including criminal penalties for repeat offenders. These employers
are arrogantly breaking the law the law today with impunity.
Illegal immigrants are moving to
Georgia in massive numbers due to the ease with which they are able
to replace Georgians in the work force. Employers ignore the law,
ignore the impact to the citizens of Georgia and pass on the social
costs to you the tax payers - just to increase profits. Before
political correctness this was called "greed."
The recent legislation passed -
while an improvement - is just a slap on the wrist to these corrupt
employers. With such lip service legislation it sends the signal
that it will be business as usual and nothing will change.
We need a
decisive change - one that will have impact and make Georgia less
attractive for illegal aliens. Instead of the citizens being
penalized, let the employers who entice illegals to Georgia pay the
price. If enforced the penalties would pay a large portion of the
one way trip expense.
Item 3: Provide improved legal
recourse for restitution against any Georgia employer who displaces
a Georgia citizen with an illegal.
If our elected officials in the
Legislature and the Governor's office were making a sincere effort
to protect the rights of Georgia citizens, a legal recourse for
displaced Georgia citizens would already be in force.
When any citizen is displaced and
suffers a financial loss from an illegal act - replacing them with
an illegal immigrant - they should have a direct legal remedy.
Let the employer who broke the law, reimburse
the citizen victimized by the employer's illegal act.
If chosen to be your voice in Senate District 51 - I will work
diligently to represent the citizens of
Georgia - not special interests.
