Resolving State Flag Issue
Position Statement
"The issue
today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether
man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small
elite."
- Thomas Jefferson
Georgia State Flag
should be resolved by a FAIR Vote
The
facts are simple.
- Former governor
Roy Barnes introduced legislation to change the lawful state flag,
in spite of promises that he would not do so. The present Governor
Sonny Perdue made a campaign promise to guarantee the people of
Georgia an opportunity for a FAIR Vote
in a statewide referendum if elected governor. Both situations were
tainted by self-proclaimed influence of special interests. The Metro
Atlanta Chamber has publicly bragged about their success and
influence in preventing a FAIR Vote by the people of Georgia
A FAIR Vote bill - HB-15 was introduced in the State House
in January, 2005 and has been held "hostage" in the State House
Governmental Affairs Committee without even a public hearing. Not
a single State Senator submitted a FAIR Vote bill in the State
Senate, including my opponent.
A Mason Dixon Poll showed that 79% of Georgians believe
that the Citizens should have a FAIR Vote. A Republican controlled
State House, Senate and Governor's office have pandered to the
Atlanta Metro Chamber and ignored both the campaign promises of
2002 and the 79% of Georgians from the Mason Dixon poll.
The only just solution
is for Georgia’s Legislature to follow through with giving the
people an opportunity to express their choice of state flags in a
“FAIR Vote” referendum that includes the 1956 Georgia flag.
In my
Basic Foundation and Beliefs in Government
I clearly state:
All political power and influence should
flow from the citizens upward, the unholy influence and special
treatment of special interests must be eliminated. Controversial
issues should be settled by a vote of the affected citizens, Let
The People Vote!
If chosen to your voice in Senate District 51 - I will support
a FAIR Vote of the citizens of Georgia on not only the State Flag
(as promised by Republican governor Sonny Perdue) but on all truly
controversial issues. Such issues should be resolved by the citizens
NOT special interests!
When a FAIR Vote referendum is scheduled for the ballot, I
will support a return to the 1956 Flag as I believe that Southern
Heritage is one of the foundations of American Liberty and even
Southerners have a right to be proud of their Heritage.
